Griffin + Bell Summer 11+ Courses

10th - 13th July, 10 AM - 1 PM - places available

28th - 31st August 10 AM - 1 PM: SOLD OUT - waiting list in operation

Camden Arts Centre NW3

Our 11+ courses have an exceptional reputation for preparing pupils in Y5 and Y6 for the tough 11+ / pre-test process to come.

The courses coming up this summer are designed for those in-between Y5 and Y6, readying them for the start of the new academic year.

Working with a group of up to 12 pupils, we will introduce them to the key skills and exam techniques required to perform well in their  exams and assessments. Devised and led by Victoria - who has been tutoring 11+ pupils for 12 years, with an exceptional track record - and supported by other top 11+ tutors, the course will cover comprehension technique, story-writing, consolidation of key maths topics, problem-solving skills, handling nerves, time management, non-verbal and verbal reasoning tips and an interview workshop. We have adapted the programme to incorporate more of the CAT style questioning and skills (essential for the new Consortium entry exams) whilst still supporting the English and Maths requirements for NLCS, Highgate, Habs, UCS etc. Many boys sitting pre-tests in the Autumn Term also find our 11+ courses a useful way to brush up their skills and get focused! The week ends with mock papers, after which parents are sent detailed written feedback to help strategise for the year to come.

Past participants in our courses have earned places at: St. Paul's (Girls' and Boys' Schools), Westminster, North London Collegiate, City, Habs, Highgate, UCS, Merchant Taylors, Francis Holland, South Hampstead High, Latymer Upper, Godolphin, Notting Hill and Ealing, Winchester, Eton, Wycombe Abbey and many more. Several have been offered academic scholarships.

These courses do book up quickly and with several places pre-booked already, I would encourage you to get in touch asap if you'd like your child to attend. For further details, email Victoria:

Note - the course content is NOT the same as that which was covered over the Easter holidays and we are always happy to welcome students back! However the July and August courses will be identical in terms of material, so we would not advise attending both.

Cost for 4 mornings: £350

Griffin + Bell Creative Writing Masterclass

7th July, 10 AM - 3 PM

Camden Arts Centre NW3

After the success of a similar session last year, one of our top English tutors, Jess, is offering a Creative Writing Masterclass on Saturday 7th July, at the Camden Arts Centre. The masterclass is aimed at pupils from Y5 to Y8.

Until recently Jess was an English Teacher at Notting Hill and Ealing School - a top independent girls' school and member of the North London Consortium. There, she marked 11+ papers as well as preparing students for GCSE and A level. Jess is an expert when it comes to helping pupils to improve their story-writing. She will be inspiring the group with some fantastic tricks and tips, including structuring, writing a great opening, using powerful language techniques and developing characters.

It will be a useful session for anyone who wants to improve their story-writing, whether they have 11+, 13+ or other assessments on the horizon, or whether they're simply dreaming of becoming a professional author some day! All the content will compliment and enhance the story techniques taught on the general 11+ courses.

The masterclass will run from 10am to 3pm. Cost £150 per student. There will be a maximum of 12 in the group and there will be a short lunch break, hopefully making the best of their lovely garden!

Here are three testimonials from last year:

'My son really liked the teacher and thought he was able to learn a lot from her. She was empathetic, and was also able to help build his skills with concrete tips... Reading what others wrote helped him see what new things he could do. As a result, the day made an appreciable difference to his writing ability.'

'The quality of my son's essays have now significantly improved... I wholeheartedly would recommend this course.'

'My daughter said she found the course really helpful and that she learned things she had not come across before!'
